Torrie Lewis has completed the perfect preparation for the Glasgow Commonwealth Games by smashing her own Australian 100m record, taking down five-time Olympic champion Elaine Thompson-Herah in the process.
- Torrie Lewis won the 100m in 11.04 seconds at the Tipos PTS meet, slicing 0.04s off her previous Australian record.

- The meet served as a final warm-up; Glasgow entries include the 100m, 200m and 4x100m, with medal prospects strong.
- Elaine Thompson-Herah finished second in 11.06 seconds; she is the reigning Commonwealth 100m champion but will not defend in Glasgow.
- Claudia Hollingsworth won the women’s 800m in 2:00.34 and is a key member of Australia’s stacked middle-distance contingent for Glasgow.
Lewis claimed the win at the Tipos PTS meet in Slovakia in 11.04 seconds, stripping four hundredths of a second off the previous mark that the 21-year-old had set in the heats at last year’s world championships in Tokyo.
The Jamaican great Thompson-Herah, who did the 100m and 200m double at the 2016 and 2020 Olympics, and Austria’s Christania Williams finished second and third respectively in 11.06 seconds.
Lewis also won the 200m on Tuesday in 22.66 seconds – making it the second straight year she had done the sprint double at the meet in the town of Banska Bystrica.
Lavanya Williams from Jamaica was second in 23.13 seconds.
It was the perfect final Commonwealth Games warm-up for Lewis, who will contest the 100m, 200m and 4x100m in Glasgow.
The track and field program begins on Monday and the flying Queenslander should be right in medal contention in all her events.
Lewis learned some valuable lessons at last year’s world championships where she was bitterly disappointed to miss a spot in the 100m final after setting an Australian record in the opening round.
Thompson-Herah, 34, is the reigning Commonwealth 100m champion but will not defend her title at the Glasgow Games.
Several other Jamaican sprint superstars including Oblique Seville, Kishane Thompson and sisters Tina and Tia Clayton are also giving the Commonwealth Games a miss.
In another standout Australian performance at the Tipos PTS meet, Claudia Hollingsworth won the women’s 800m in 2 minutes and 0.34 seconds.
The 21-year-old Hollingsworth will be a key member of a stacked Australian women’s middle-distance contingent in Glasgow.
Luke Boyes was third in the men’s 800m in 1:44.87 and countryman Peyton Craig sixth in 1:45.65.
