Cardiff have signed Tonga back-five forward Semisi Paea from Super Rugby Pacific side Moana Pasifika as they prepare for the 2026-27 season.

Key Points
  • Semisi Paea called joining Cardiff "an exciting new chapter" in his rugby journey.
  • Semisi Paea can play blindside flanker or lock, offering strong versatility across the back row.
  • Christ Tshiunza chose a move to Sale Sharks, creating a gap that Paea's arrival helps plug for Cardiff.
  • Corniel van Zyl praised Paea's physicality and work-rate, noting his ability to slot into second row and back row.

The 27-year-old can play blindside flanker or lock and the Blue and Blacks also note his versatility across the back row.

Paea said: “This is an exciting new chapter in my rugby journey and I am thrilled to be joining such a well-respected club as Cardiff.”

With similarly gifted Wales forward Christ Tshiunza having opted to move from Exeter to Sale Sharks instead of seeking a return to his home city, Paea’s arrival plugs a gap for Cardiff.

Cardiff head coach Corniel van Zyl said: “Semisi’s physicality and work-rate are the standout attributes, but he takes nothing for granted and we were really impressed after meeting Semisi.

“He can slot into the second row and back row and has played a good amount of rugby.”
